Mr. Todd is Founder/Executive Director of the International Disease Management Alliance [IDMA] and Past President/Executive Director and founding board member of the Disease Management Association of America [DMAA].
Mr. Todd has been at the forefront of the Disease Management [DM] industry since the early 90's when he initiated one of the first asthma DM programs for the National Jewish Medical & Research Center and in 1996 published the first book on disease management;
Disease Management: A Systems Approach to Improving Patient Outcomes by AHA/Jossey Bass. As an early pioneer of the DM industry Mr. Todd also helped establish the DMAA in 1999, became its second president in 2000, was awarded DMAA's prestigious
Recognizing Excellence Award for the "Most Important Individual in DM" in 2001. Mr. Todd also served as DMAA's Executive Director from 2001-2005. During his six years at DMAA Mr. Todd provided both the leadership and operational support behind the exponential growth of the Association, its financial success, its double-digit growth in annual conference attendance, and passage of important legislation, including DM-friendly HIPAA legislation and the recent disease management sections of the Medicare Modernization Act. Mr. Todd's achievement in helping to expand the DM market in the United States has been mirrored in his international activities wherein he has almost single-handedly served as the "Johnny Appleseed of DM" around the world. These international efforts have helped lead to the establishment of three DM Associations [Germany, Australia, and Japan] plus interest in DM on five continents. Mr. Todd has lectured and/or provided consulting support in 12 countries.
Mr. Todd's background includes 35 years as a senior healthcare executive with experience in product/service development in many sectors of the healthcare market that included pharmaceutical manufacturers, health plans, specialty disease management companies, physician network organizations, hospitals, integrated delivery systems, medical device companies, associations, and health information organizations. In addition he had also served as adjunct professor at the University of Denver where he taught a master's level program on new trends in managed care.
Mr. Todd received his master's degree in business administration from Columbia University and his undergraduate degree from Northeastern University. He is also a graduate of the University of Missouri/Kansas City's Executive Program in Managed Care and the Philip Crosby Quality College for Total Quality Management.
